About Alva Underwood

Retired from 37 years of teaching in elementary, high school, and community-college level, Alva Underwood has turned her skills of writing and research to STAR TREK and its worlds as provided through the novels. After extensive reading, research, and purchase of volumes by both the professional writer and the amateur, Alva feels qualified to produce this volume and others that will follow.

Alva has been an avid reader of science fiction since the age of 9 when given the privilege of a library card.
Following the original airing of "Devil in the Dark," Alva Underwood became a fan of the STAR TREK world, buying, reading, and writing about its peoples, places, and events. She owns all the novels about the STAR TREK world created by Gene Roddenberry whose fans have never forgotten it. She also has collected memorabilia of this world and attends, when time permits, STAR TREK conventions.

In addition to the Star Trek Reader's Reference series, Alva has:

  • Collaborated with Ralph Gerhard to write the History of Moberly Public Library.

  • Authored Living Faith, A History of Ebenezer Baptist Church, a historical biography of a rural church near Fulton, Missouri.

Alva plans to continue indexing the STAR TREK novels of the original series before moving on to The Next Generation
